Good points Mark. I'd extend beyond just enterprise<>startup by saying that partnerships of all types seldom (<25%) work. That said, they're better than the alternative and are usually vital for early-stage growth. The best partnerships seem to be those where there's a quick "plug and play" opportunity for mutual value-add. I.E. it's so obvious that both parties should do "X" that they'd be foolish not to. Otherwise, I've found it better just to focus on building a better product/service. There's virtually no downside to that.
